Power Lose Game One To Hagerstown 9-3

(Charleston, WV, June 7, 2013): The West Virginia Power lost to the Hagerstown Suns 9-3 Friday evening at Appalachian Power Park. The Power pitching staff combined to allow 12 hits to the Hagerstown offense.
Hagerstown scored two runs in the second and one in the third to take a 3-0 lead. The Suns added two more runs in the fifth courtesy of a two-out triple by Will Piwnica-Worms.
In the bottom of the fifth, trailing by five, West Virginia scored two runs. Max Moroff hit his fifth home run of the season to cut the lead to four. Walker Gourley added another run by driving home Raul Fortunato with an RBI sacrifice fly.
West Virginia continued to chip away at the lead in the sixth. Josh Bell hit a one-out double and scored on a Stetson Allie single to right.
Hagerstown added another run in the eighth inning to take a 6-3 lead and closed the door against the Power in the ninth by adding three more runs.
Clay Holmes (2-5) took the loss by allowing five runs (four earned) in five innings of work. Pedro Encarnacion (5-3) received the win by allowing two runs (one earned) through five innings. Robert Benincasa earned his ninth save of the season.
Orlando Castro will pitch for West Virginia in game two of the three game series against Hagerstown’s Nick Lee. First pitch for Saturday is scheduled for 7:05.
