Both West Virginia State and UC went after a second win on Thursday in the West Virginia Conference Baseball Tournament in Beckley.
In the afternoon, UC fell into the loser’s bracket with a 5-1 loss to Concord.
State took on Shepherd in the fourth and final game of the day and Cal Bailey’s crew knocked off the Rams, 5-2.
While that final baseball event is unfolding in Beckley, the last WVIAC Softball Tournament is being played out at Jackson Park in Vienna.
The Lady Yellow Jackets of State captured two wins on the day over A-B and Shepherd. UC lost to Shepherd before bouncing back to eliminate A-B.
The double elimination affair continues on Friday. State, the No. 2 seed, was set to meet No. 1 Fairmont State in a winner’s bracket game. UC, the No. 3 seed, will oppose No. 4 West Virginia Wesleyan.
Meanwhile, the West Virginia Power played game two of its series with Greensboro.
