With the loss of three contributing seniors, we knew that Marshall's basketball program would have a different look in the 2013-14 season. On Tuesday the Herd roster lost yet another key member as it was announced DeAndre Kane won't be returning for his fourth and final season in Huntington.
The Pttsburgh native was an All-Conference USA second team pick this past season for Marshall, averaging 15.1 points per game and 6.9 assists per contest. Kane spent a good chunk of the season running the point for Marshall.
Kane earned a share of Marshall's outstanding player of the year award with fellow junior Elijah Pittman. As a junior Kane played in 34 of 35 games and was again an All-Conference USA second team selection.
Kane was third in Conference USA scoring as a sophomore, averaging 16.5 points a game. He scored a Conference USA Tournament record 40 points in a triple overtime win over
Tulsa. In his first season with the Herd, Kane was named the C-USA freshman of the year and earned All-C-USA third team honors.
Marshall head coach Tom Herrion said of Kane's departure. "After meeting with DeAndre, I have decided it is in our program's and his best interest that he seek opportunities elsewhere. We appreciate his contributions to our our team and wish him the best in his future."
