After a day of blowouts on Wednesday, Nicholas County, the No. 3 seed, and No. 6 seed North Marion staged an epic battle in the first game on Thursday. Shealyn Shafer had 16 points, 15 rebounds and six blocked shots to lead the Lady Grizzlies to the school's first-ever State Tournament win, 47-42. The afternoon Class AA game saw Bridgeport's Miki Glenn explode for 36 points as the Lady Indians, last season's Class AAA runner-up, defeated Lincoln, 54-34. Glenn also added 11 rebounds for the No. 2 Indians. Sandwiched between the Class AAA games was Logan's 77-66 win over Princeton. Shayna Gore scorched the nets for 36 points to lead Logan to its historic first win in State Tournament play. The No. 5 Wildcats improved to 16-9. The evening session winners included defending state champ Westside and Fairmont Sr. in Class AA along with Parkersburg South in Class AAA.
