West Virginia lost for a second time this season to Baylor, 68-65, on Wednesday night sending its season record to 13-15. WVU has three games remaining in the regular season.
WVU's Eron Harris scored a career-high 25 in a losing cause.
Meanwhile, the West Virginia Conference Women's Tournament quarterfinal round saw top-seed Glenville State get eliminated by No. 9 seed UC. The Lady Eagles now advance to Friday's semifinal round.
Other winners on Wednesday were No. 2 seed West Liberty, No. 3 seed Fairmont State and No. 5 seed Seton Hill.
Area Class AA teams advancing to next week's West Virginia Girls State Tournament were Clay and Nicholas.
In boys sectional action, both Riverside and South Charleston picked up wins.
