Bryan Poore was hopeful the third time would be the charm between his West Virginia State Yellow Jackets and the UC Golden Eagles.

After losing twice during the regular season, State drew UC in the opening round of the final West Virginia Conference Men's Basketball Tournament.

But just like it was the first two times, including a showdown in the regular season finale on Saturday, UC was a winner. The Golden Eagles sidelined the Jackets, 96-83, Tuesday evening at home inside Eddie King Gymansium.

UC advances on to the quarterfinal round of the tournament, which resumes Thursday at the Charleston Civic Center Coliseum.

UC, the No. 5 seed, now meets No. 4 seed Wheeling Jesuit, a winner over Davis & Elkins.

In other games, No. 2 Fairmont downed Ohio Valley, No. 3 Alderson-Broaddus beat No. 14 Bluefield State, No. 11 Glenville upset No. 6 Shepherd, No. 7 Seton Hill eliminated No. 10 Wesleyan and No. 9 Pitt Johnstown went on the road and knocked off No. 8 Concord.

Regular season champ and top-seed West Liberty was idle Tuesday and now faces off with Pitt Johnstown on Thursday.

This is the final year for both the WVIAC Men's and Women's Tournaments and teams in the league move into new conferences.

Also, there were six Class AAA regionals played on Tuesday to determine teams for next week's West Virginia Girls State High School Tournament. Martinsburg, Parkersburg South, Morgantown, Spring Valley, Logan and Princeton all advanced. Two games - Capital at Greenbrier East and Elkins at Hedgesville - were postponed due to weather.

The State Tournament begins next Wednesday.
