WV Boys State Tournamentfrom Eyewitness News Online Championship Saturday; Oak Hill, Park. Catholic & Logan Win Titles
Championship Saturday at the 97th annual West Virginia Boys State High School Basketball Tournament saw Oak Hill, Parkersburg Catholic and Logan claim state championships in that order.
No. 2 Oak Hill stormed from behind to defeat No. 1 Wyoming East, 55-45, for the Class AA crown. It was Oak Hill's first title since 1989 when the Red Devils won it as a Class AAA school. It was the fifth meeting of the season between the two Southern West Virginia rivals, with WE owning a 3-2 edge but falling in the all-important title game. East was in the championship game for a fourth straight year. Parkersburg Catholic won its second title in school history with a56-45 win over Charleston Catholic. PC last won a title in 1999. For Charleston Catholic it was the school's sixth straight trip to the title game. Catholic has gone 2-4 in the big game over the course of that six-year period. In the final title game of the day, Logan won the Class AAA state title with a 63-48 victory over Wheeling Park. Logan last won a crown in 2005 as a Class AA school. Logan, a one-time Class AAA power, last won a title in the big schools class in 1991.
