UC Basketballfrom Eyewitness News Online White Leaving Post At UC
Greg White is saying so long to the University of Charleston men's basketball program for a second time.
At an afternoon news conference Thursday (March 18) on the UC campus, White announced he was departing as the leader of Golden Eagle basketball to pursue a couple of business ventures - including motivational speaking. White's Golden Eagles won 19 games and finished fifth overall in the West Virginia Conference this past season and made it to the tournament semifinals. White said it wasn't an easy decision. White returned to the UC campus in the spring of 2003 after serving as head coach at his alma mater Marshall University, where he is a member of the school's Hall of Fame. In 1990 White was hired at UC after serving as head coach for Pikeville College. He was the 1992 WVIAC Coach of the Year after his team won the regular season title and earned a berth to Kansas City in the NAIA National Tournament. His '93 Golden Eagle team won the WVIAC Tournament title. White left UC in 1995 to become an assistant at UCLA for one year. When he returned to UC, the Marshall job opened and he took over the Thundering Herd basketball program. A program he starred for during his four -year college career from 1977-81. White's overall coaching record at UC is 195-147. Hear more with Greg White coming up Friday night on the final edition of "Golden Eagles Today" (12:06 after "Nightline").
