WV Boys State Tournamentfrom Eyewitness News Online Day 2 Action; Winners Moving On To Semifinal Friday
Two days are down at the 97th annual West Virginia Boys State High School Basketball Tournament. All four Class A quarterfinal round games were Thursday - both Tucker County and Parkersburg Catholic were the first two to advance on to the Friday's Final Four.
Tucker County started the day by winning in overtime against Midland Trail, 54-51. Parkersburg Catholic, meanwhile, won the lowest scoring game in tourney history with a 25-20 decision over Fayetteville. The Charleston Catholic Fighting Irish are back in the semifinals, winning over feisty Gilbert, 50-35. Wheeling Central won the final game of the day with a 59-52 victory against Clarksburg Notre Dame. Capital captured a 54-39 win over Morgantown in the first of two Class AAA games on the day. The second was a "Battle of the Valley" with South Charleston topping George Washington, 49-44. South Charleston is gunning for a fourth straight trip to the AAA championship.
