WV Boys State Tournamentfrom Eyewitness News Online Day 1 Action; Six Teams Advance At CCCC
Six teams earned their way into semifinal Friday on Wednesday at the 97th annual West Virginia Boys State High School Basketball Tournament.
The Weir Red Riders topped Sissonville, 56-42, in Wednesday's first of four Class AA encounters. In the second AA game of the day Oak Hill upended Keyser, 63-48, advancing to the semifinals for a second straight year. The third AA quarterfinal contest had No. 1 Wyoming East over No. 8 Frankfort, 63-38. In Class AAA Wheeling Park defeated defending state champion Martinsburg, 60-52. Logan, the No. 1 seed, earned a hard-fought, 65-57, win over Hedgesville. The final game had No. 4 Tug Valley rolling past No. 5 Magnolia, 69-51. Thursday's action features four Class A games with No. 3 Tucker County and No. 6 Midland Trail tipping things off at 9:30 a.m. At 1 p.m. it will be No. 2 Parkersburg Catholic against No. 7 Fayetteville. No. 1 Charleston Catholic takes on No. 8 Gilbert at 5:30 with No. 4 Wheeling Central and No. 5 Clarksburg Notre Dame getting together in the nightcap at 9 p.m. The other two Class AAA quarterfinals will be played Thursday with No. 4 Capital playing No. 5 Morgantown at 11:15 and No. 3 GW and No. 6 South Charleston colliding at 7:15 p.m. The six semifinals are Friday. Saturday's championship games are set for Noon (Class AA), 2:30 (Class A) and 7:15 (Class AAA).
