WV Girls State Tournamentfrom Eyewitness News Online Day 1 Action; Plus Class A Boys Regionals
Defending champion North Marion and South Charleston moved on to semifinal Friday in Class AAA, while Tolsia, Scott, Summers County and Ravenswood will meet in the Class AA semifinals at the West Virginia Girls State High School Basketball Tournament following Wednesday's action.
North Marion defeated Ripley while South Charleston eliminated Bridgeport. The other two AAA quarterfinal round games are Thursday along with all four Class A contests. In Class AA, Summers County, the three-time defending state champs, won a state-record 66th straight game against Frankfort while Ravenswood ended Westside's perfect season. Ravenswood and Summers will meet for a second straight year in the semifinals. Tolsia won its first state tournament game since '99. Scott captured a victory in the tournament for the first time ever. Tolsia and Scott play for a fourth time this season Friday. Also, Charleston Catholic, Gilbert, Parkersburg Catholic, Wheeling Central, Clarksburg Notre Dame, Fayetteville, Midland Trail and Tucker County all earned berths into next week's West Virginia Boys State High School Tournament.
