Bobby Bowden went out a winner against his old school in Jacksonville. For the third time in his career, Bowden's Florida State Seminoles defeated West Virginia in a Gator Bowl. This one had a little more meaning since it was the last game in Bowden's distinguished career.
FSU topped the Mountaineers, 33-21. West Virginia ends its season at 9-4 for a second straight year. The Seminoles closed the Bowden era at 7-6 - the program's 33rd consecutive winning season.
Jimbo Fisher, a Clarksburg native and former Liberty High and Salem College standout, will take over at FSU.
Bowden leaves as college football's second winningest coach behind Joe Paterno.
From 1970-75 Bowden was WVU's head coach. He won his final game guiding WVU in 1975 with a Peach Bowl victory over North Carolina State.
