Last Update on May 05, 2008 2:53 AM Penguins 3 Rangers 2, overtime - Penguins win series 4-1 PITTSBURGH Marian Hossa scored his second goal of the game 7:10 into overtime and Pittsburgh posted a 3-2 victory that eliminated the New York Rangers from the NHL playoffs. The Penguins got the game winner after surrendering a two-goal lead in regulation. Pittsburgh wins the best-of-seven series 4-1 and advances to the Eastern Conference finals for the first time in seven years. The Penguins were the worst team in the conference two years ago. They'll meet cross-state rival Philadelphia in the first all-Pennsylvania conference final. The Flyers were the conference's worst team last season. The teams haven't met in the postseason since the Flyers' six-game victory in a 2000 second-round series best remembered for Philadelphia's five-overtime win in game four. Stars 2 Sharks 1, 4 overtimes - Stars wins series 4-2 DALLAS The Dallas Stars have finally made it back to the Western Conference finals. It took the eighth longest game in NHL history to do it. Brenden Morrow scored a power play goal 9:03 into the fourth overtime as the Stars eliminated the pesky San Jose Sharks 2-1 in the longest game in the NHL playoffs this season. The Stars are going to the conference finals for the first time since 2000. They will face Detroit, which wrapped up its second-round sweep of Colorado last Thursday. The Dallas-Detroit Western Conference final starts this Thursday night. After winning the first three games in the series, the Stars finally knocked out the Sharks on the third try and avoided having to go to San Jose for a deciding game. Morrow scored the game-winner by deflecting a pass by Stephane Robidas past Sharks goalie Evgeni Nabokov (ehv-GEHN'-nee nuh-BAH'-kahf), who made 17 saves in the first OT to keep the Sharks alive for awhile in the longest game in their history. Nabokov stopped 53 of 55 shots he faced. Dallas goalie Marty Turco made 61 saves. |
