DAYS AFTER ANOTHER SHOOTING ON CHARLESTON'S WEST SIDE...POLICE HAVE AMPED UP THEIR PRESENCE IN THE AREA.

THEY ALSO SAY AT THE SCENE OF THE SHOOTING...THEY FOUND COCAINE IN A HAT BELONGING TO DICKERSON
SINCE THAT DISCOVERY...POLICE SAY DICKERSON AND WITNESSES HAVE REFUSED TO HELP THEM FIND THE PERSON RESPONSIBLE.
"THE FACT IS THAT GLENWOOD AND GRANT AND THE ALLEYS AROUND HERE HAVE HAD SO MANY SHOOTINGS AND KNIFFINGS IN THE PAST FOUR YEARS...THE POLICE WILL BE GONE AND IT WILL MAKE NO DIFFERENCE."

OUT OF THE 20 STUDENTS SIX ARE JUVENILES, PROSECUTOR SAYS THESE CRIMES ARE FELONIES, BUT HE'S NOT OPPOSED TO PRE TRIAL DIVERSION WHICH WOULD GIVE THE STUDENTS THE OPTION TO PAY BACK THE COST OF THE DAMAGE AND COMMUNITY SERVICE.
IF THEY DON'T AGREE TO THAT--THE PROSECUTOR SAYS HE WILL GO FORWARD WITH CRIMINAL CHARGES.
