Dry Creek Road, Milton, turn right off of fairgrounds road at Blenko Glass then left through tunnel under railroad, which is Dry Creek Road
Milton, Cabell County, West Virginia

Black top is falling apart with potholes that neighbors have filled with rock since the state DOH will not do anything.Trees are overgrowing the roadway that two cars cannot pass without scratching vehicles, and taller trucks are in the tree limbs overhanging the roadway.

The road also gets blocked with water from the river, and the state DOH will not open the second access road, which it already owns so people are not totally stranded in an emergency if help is needed. People have to walk 1.5 miles on the CSX railroad tracks to be able to go to work. The DOH Barboursville headquarters has been called several times already this spring and summer and no work has been completed.

The Doddridge side is not too bad, the Tyler side is horrible. Jay-Bee Oil and Gas uses the road to haul heavy trucks to the new drilling pads at the top of the hill. The road has a sharp switchback, and they use skid steers and dozers to drag the tractor-trailers up around it. This road is our main way to get to Clarksburg (where most of the people who live around here work). The alternate route adds 40 minutes to the trip.

The problem is the state road said it won't fix the road, and it is slipping over the hill. The only way into this property is to cross a bridge with a weight limit, and it is too dangerous for a ambulance to come across to help anyone on the other side. So if they don't fix it my father and his neighbors and our family members could be at a health risk. I don't understand why when a road is traveled every day and because it is a health risk they don't see enough reason to be concerned. It is very upsetting, and I do feel that in a way it is discriminating to farmers all over the world. People's safety is now being risked because the Department of Transportation doesn't want to fix the road. Really?

Pieces of the road have broken off because of the water in the ditch all the time. Vehicles actually stop to let the other vehicles come down the road so they down have to go through the water (and also miss the potholes). State Route 4, about a three-mile stretch north of Clay, south of Ivydale
Between Ivydale and Clay , Clay County, West Virginia

This is not one pothole. It's continuous potholes. Maximum speed for this stretch of road is 15 mph. Numerous people have blown tires and bent rims. This is along a stretch of road with no guardrails. It is highly likely for someone to hit one of these and be thrown off the edge of the road and right over the bank to land in the river! It's beyond taking one picture. Various people have taken videos of this, complained to county and state officials. Someone traveling this not knowing the condition, in the dark, stands an excellent chance of wrecking. This is our main highway right beside the river! People are driving off the road completely through the ditches or off onto the roadside to try avoiding some of these craters! It's so bad snowplows wouldn't even drop their blades in this area for fear of tearing the road up more!

You have to almost completely stop just to have to drop off the side of the road to dodge more potholes. This really needs fixed before someone ends up hitting these and ending up the creek or hitting another car. These holes get fixed just to return every year, and they just get worse as the years pass by. It is almost impossible for a car to get around these. You pretty much have to have a truck or a SUV to get around without tearing something up. Please try to get us some help in getting the road fixed.

Pennsylvania Avenue is a nightmare, and the lumpy, pathetic patch attempts are just as bad as the potholes. I ask, when did filling these holes with more asphalt than they can hold become the plan? It turns the holes into bumps, which get scraped off with the next plow.

The road was once a very nice road. It was well maintained. About every two to three years it was repaved. After the term of Gaston Caperton ended as governor, the paving stopped! The road fell into disrepair. It got worse and worse. Many calls were made to the local Division of Highways, to the head of DOH, the governor (three of them). Petitions were sent and signed by every resident on the road, wanting the road repaired. The most we have received was a dump of gravel in some holes and a grading, which took out more of the pavement.

Several residents have received massive damage to their suspensions on their vehicles. I myself have rebuilt the front and rear suspension on my trucks three times in the past five years and they get less than 5,000 miles a year on them. The road has become impassable to any car and is only passable to a vehicle with a good ground clearance.

The damage in its worst is: two massive slips, one just had a bunch of gravel dumped on it and was "supposed to" receive reinforcement beams, but never did and continues to slip. and one that is eroding into the creek. The dirt is actually gone from under the road and continues to slip that the school bus goes over every day and could turn over a 30-foot hillside and do a roll over if the slip gave totally. The most the DOH did for this slip was put up a cone. The road has also sank at the center and now is part of the creek and the creek runs freely through it.

The residents of Kellys Creek Road cry for your help.

Not only have the potholes been a problem for years, the road is sinking in and broken off, making travel unsafe. If I were a school bus driver, I would refuse to haul children on this road until fixed. State road crews have been notified on multiple occasions and do not attempt to keep up the road. Ditches are overflowing and not routinely cleaned out. After any hard rain, there are literally lakes you must drive through to get out of the holler. This is absolutely uncalled for. The weeds are allowed to grow so terribly high into the road that you can't even see around them. Travel here is dangerous and at your own risk. The sad part about all of this is that the crews are aware but don't make cleanup and repair of Camp Creek a priority or even acknowledge the problems. Issues have been going on for years. I have taken these problems further up the chain of command to no avail. I encourage everyone to file in the Court of Claims for repairs.

All the way up the road there are so many potholes. It is very bad for us and school buses. They had a mountain slide above our houses because of logging, and they left tree stump and treetops (backed up water and a slide on road). The state road was cleaning up, and we talked to men from state road and they said call state until it is fixed.

Another series of holes in the curve, also on Route 85 as soon as you enter Bim, the nearest curve to the Bim FWB Church, needs patched. The road keeps falling into the creek here. It is almost impassable. The road needs to be cut over farther into the side of the hill, a retaining wall needs to be built, or guardrails or something need to be put into place to keep someone from sliding over into the creek. This has happened before. State road came out and looked at it, but nothing has been done. Also, when state road cuts trees, it needs to take the debris with it or keep it out of streams. It alters the waterway and causes flooding and erosion.

There is a pothole that the coal trucks have made. It has been there for a long time. The Division of Highways patched this numerous times, but it has opened back up yet again. Someone could really get hurt if he hits this the wrong way. It could cause a horrible accident.

From the mouth of Campbells Creek Drive up to at least three miles in
Campbells Creek Dr, Kanawha County, West Virginia

From the mouth of Campbells Creek up to at least three miles in (I don't drive further than that), the potholes are insane! I have had friends burst tires from the kiddie pool-size potholes. I have to drive slow to try to dodge these suckers and if there is oncoming traffic, I cringe and pray to the Lord that I don't burst a tire or fall in completely.

Turkey Creek Road off Route 34
Hurricane, Putnam County, West Virginia

The potholes are huge. The drainage is so lacking resulting in icy roads that within the past week we have had two vehicles go over very steep hills. Thank goodness no one was hurt! I am surprised that the second bridge you have to cross to travel up the creek is still standing because of the potholes in it. Please help. We always seem to be forgotten way out here in the country. Thank you for listening.

I won't even say potholes, but craters -- everywhere. People have burst their tires left and right. It is not safe. We are tearing our vehicles all to pieces. It was like this before winter conditions. Our hill to our grade school is a mess that our children travel on every day, and they refuse to fix it. Please, please, please help our children. Send a crew to video this hill that our county is sending our children up and down every day.

There are places that you cannot miss them due to the fact they are completely across the road. I've even followed a salt truck that hit one of the holes, and it rocked the truck like a Tonka Toy, so the state road must know about them. The problem is the salt trucks mostly run that road days after the snow is gone and the road is clear. Yet they are still running chains?
