A couple is lucky to be alive after a fire tore through their Rutledge Road home early Tuesday.

Eyewitness News arrived on the scene before firefighters and caught the couple's escape on camera.

The man suffered minor burns on his neck and lips, but is expected to be OK. The couple said they had working smoke detectors, which never alerted them to the fire. Their home was destroyed in the blaze.

The fate of 10 dogs that lived inside that home has not been released just yet.

Accompanying this story is raw footage at the scene of the fire.
