Attorney general says he didn't mislead governor's aide

COLUMBUS, Ohio
Former Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann is defending himself against statements by Gov. Ted Strickland that Dann misled the governor's chief of staff about his extramarital affair with an employee.



In an interview during a Cleveland visit Friday, Strickland reiterated earlier statements that Dann had told chief of staff John Haseley in recent weeks that there was no validity to rumors he was having an affair. Dann, who has since resigned, admitted to the relationship at a May 2 news conference in the wake of sexual harassment findings against an aide.

In an e-mail Friday, Dann said he never misrepresented anything to either Haseley or the governor.

Strickland spokesman Keith Dailey said that the issue arose offhandedly between the two men during a meeting on another topic and Dann said it wasn't true.
