Township: Feds, we don't want your money

CLEVELAND
The federal government is not used to being snubbed when it offers to help local governments.

But Chardon Township in Geauga County did just that. It turned down a $10,000 offer from the feds in disaster aid for the big snowstorm between March 7 and March 9.

Township Trustee Chuck Strazinsky says it was a typical snowstorm unworthy of federal aid.

He says the money should be reserved for true emergencies.

Chardon Township Trustee Steve Borowski disagrees with the decision, saying help from the federal government shouldn't be turned down.

Last month the Federal Emergency Management Agency included Geauga among 17 Ohio counties eligible for disaster aid.
