Ohio's Otterbein College to become university

WESTERVILLE, Ohio
Ohio's newest university is also a former university.



Trustees at Otterbein College have voted to change its name back to Otterbein University, what the school was originally called when it was founded in 1847 in the Columbus suburb of Westerville.

It became the college in 1917, to reflect that it was strictly an undergraduate, liberal arts school.

Trustees who approved the renaming on Saturday said Otterbein University is a better fit now, since the institution offers a variety of undergrad, graduate and professional programs.

The new name takes effect in the fall.
