2 arrested in Cincinnati schools protest

CINCINNATI
Two Cincinnati civil rights leaders have been arrested at a protest of the city schools' hiring practices on construction projects.



Authorities say NAACP chapter head Christopher Smitherman and the Rev. Dock Foster, leader of a Baptist ministers group, face misdemeanor trespassing counts. They allegedly blocked workers at a school construction site Wednesday morning.

They have been demanding more contracts for black-owned companies on city school projects.

Foster said Wednesday that about 50 people participated in the protest and he and Smitherman were the only two arrested. Both men declined to comment on the specific charges or say how they would plead. Their arraignments are scheduled for Thursday.
