Ohio school district moves to ease movie ban
March 16, 2010 9:38 AM

MARYSVILLE, Ohio
An Ohio school district is moving to soften its ban on showing PG-13 and R-rated movies like "Saving Private Ryan" in high school classes.

Marysville Superintendent Larry Zimmerman on Monday released a draft of a new policy that would require parents to sign their consent before their children would be shown films rated PG-13 or R. The movies also would need approval from school administrators.

The school board is expected to discuss the proposal at a meeting Thursday.

The district about 30 miles northwest of Columbus barred the more mature films at Marysville High School last month. Parents had complained about history classes showing parts of the D-Day drama "Saving Private Ryan," the Holocaust epic "Schindler's List" and the civl war movie "Glory."
