Cincinnati's last 'policewoman' reflects on career

CINCINNATI
It's the end of an era for Cincinnati's last "policewoman."



Police Specialist Linda Day recently retired after 37 years on the job. When she was hired in 1973, she held the rank of policewoman, a title later abolished and folded into the rank of police officer.

When Day started there were 12 women on the force. Today, 335 of the department's 1,107 sworn officers are female.

Day says it's been an honor to serve. But it hasn't always been easy. A small percentage of men initially resented women on the force.

Day spent her career in the Youth Aid Section, which helps children and victims of sexual assault.
