Ohio man who wrote racial threats lost girlfriend to black
May 16, 2008 3:07 PM

CLEVELAND
The FBI says an Ohio man who wrote hundreds of racially hateful letters apparently was motivated by a girlfriend who left him for a black man.

The FBI chief in northern Ohio, Frank Figliuzzi , said Friday that 46-year-old David Tuason (TOO'-uh-sun) of Pepper Pike near Cleveland admitted his motive when arrested. He told FBI agents they wouldn't understand unless they had lost a girlfriend to a black man.

He pleaded guilty Thursday in Cleveland federal court and will be sentenced July 24.

Tuason sent more than 200 threatening letters over 20 years, often to high-profile blacks seen with white women. The victims included Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter.
