Old Fashioned Coffee Cake July 4, 2011
I have a great friend who helps me in the kitchen. Ruthie loves to cook and is an amazing baker! This recipe dates back to the early 1900’s and she’s been making it for years. This cake also freezes really well. We love these kinds of recipes at The Miller Haus B&B.
Ingredients 1 cup sugar ½ cup butter (can use margarine, butter is preferred) 1 egg 1 teaspoon soda 1 teaspoon baking powder pinch of salt 2 cups flour 1 cup buttermilk Cream butter and sugar in mixing bowl. In a separate bowl combine dry ingredients. Mix alternately with buttermilk- starting and ending with the flour. Pour into 13x9 baking dish. Top with following topping: 1 cup brown sugar 2 T. flour 3 T. softened butter 1 teaspoon cinnamon nuts (optional) Directions Mix topping ingredients together until crumbly. Sprinkle over cake batter. Bake at 350 degrees, 30-40 minutes. Let cool approximately 10 minutes and drizzle with a glaze of powdered sugar, milk and vanilla. I mix about 2 cups of powdered sugar with a couple tablespoons of milk and 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Got Questions? Visit The Miller Haus Bed & Breakfast Copyright ©2011 WCHS-TV Eyewitness News.
