Hazardous materials may have been inside a burning storage building in western Kentucky Friday.



The Paducah Sun reports on its Web site that the McCracken County Hazmat team was called to assist firefighters from Ballard County determine what was burning in the blaze that broke out about 2:30 Friday afternoon in a storage building in Wickliffe.

No injuries were reported, but the smokey blaze closed nearby roads for several hours.

The building was used for storage by NewPage paper mill.

NewPage Corp., based in Miamisburg, Ohio, produces 340,000 tons per year of paper at its Wickliffe facility, according to its Web site.

Calls to NewPage and the Ballard County Sheriff's office by were not immediately returned to The Associated Press.
