YOU NEED TO KNOW for June 15, 2009 from Eyewitness News Online New University Strayer University Moves Into Mountain State
Strayer University will be opening up a new campus in West Virginia. The grand opening will be this Wednesday at the new Scott Depot campus. Strayer's programs, including online courses, are aimed working adults and non-traditional students. Its programs include business, education, information systems and public administration.
Strayer has 65 campuses in 14 states. Veteran Education State Colleges Make Education More Affordable
Military families in West Virginia are getting a helping hand when it comes to higher education. Bluefield State College and Mountain State University have taken steps to help those families afford college expenses. Bluefield State will now offer scholarships through their yellow ribbon tuition program, while Mountain State University has lowered prices for incoming military members and their families.
Free Food Vouchers Discount Fruits and Veggies for Seniors
Mountain state seniors will now have a way to get fresh foods for free. Starting next month the Department of Agriculture will be giving out $20 vouchers to eligible seniors. The vouchers can be picked up at any county senior center and be used through October 31st to purchase fruits and vegetables at participating farmers markets. The program is made possible through the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program.
