Calcium Scoring
July 26, 2013

Eyewitness News Reporter Darrah Wilcox A test that can take a snapshot of your current risk for heart disease is now available at Cabell Huntington Hospital.

It’s ten minute test that could save your life.

CT calcium scoring is a CT scan for coronary calcium. It's a non-invasive and costs about $100. It checks for calcified plaque in your coronary arteries and, if detected, where and how much.

"Doing this test will situate your risk at that moment and then you're able to be informed of your risk,"
Dr. Linda Savory, medical director at Cabell Huntington Hospital Women's and Family Care, said.

You can assess your risk factors for heart disease, but even if you're not in a high risk group, you may still want to get tested.

Statistics show more than half of people who die from a sudden heart attack show no symptoms,
Savory said everybody should be accountable for their own health.

"Everybody should be interested in defining all the risks and learning to modify those risks,” she said
