Abingdon, Va.

Jeremiah Heaton took the phrase “daddy’s little princess” to a whole new level.

The Bristol Herald Courier reported that Heaton, of Abingdon, Va. was recently playing a game with his daughter, Emily, when she asked him if she would one day get the chance to be a princess. Heaton responded with a promise to her that he would make sure of it.

The father of three then looked into unclaimed land and found an area known as Bir Tawil, about an 800 square mile stretch of land between Sudan and Egypt. After this finding, Heaton decided to claim that land so he would be king, making Emily, princess.

Before he left on his journey, his family designed a customized flag to claim the land with. He also made contact with the Egyptian government and was given permission to travel through their country to the Bir Tawil area.

In June, Heaton made the journey and planted his flag in his newly claimed land that he and his family decided to name “North Sudan.”

Upon return to the United States, Heaton and his wife bought Emily a princess crown and asked their friends and family to refer to her as “Princess Emily.”

Their two other children, Justin and Caleb, are also excited about their new royalty status and have been making crafts with the “North Sudan” flag.

The legality of the new nation is still being worked out as Egypt and Sudan have to legally recognize this area as a nation. The Heaton’s also need to make sure no other nation has legal claim over the area.

Heaton said he is confident is his claim and is very happy he is able to show his children that he would do anything to keep a promise to them, even if the journey takes him to the other side of the world.
