Charleston , Kanawha County , West Virginia

Charleston police called off the manhunt for a murder suspect Thursday afternoon.

Lt. Steve Cooper, lead investigator with the Charleston Police Department, said Marlon "Ice" Dixon, 37, called and turned himself in to police. Cooper said Dixon told officers he knew they were on his heels. Dixon told police he decided to hide out in car trunks and safe houses to avoid them. Dixon was arrested on Indiana Avenue after 5 p.m.

Branda "Mi Mi" Basham, 22, was shot twice in the torso and once in the head on the West Side of town Saturday, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County. The court document also states Dixon knew Basham was an informant for law enforcement and that she was killed because she wore a wire. According to the criminal complaint, Basham made several controlled drug buys for law enforcement and provided evidence in an ongoing investigation involving Dixon, including direct evidence that led to Dixon’s arrest and indictment.

Through a search warrant, police found a pair of bloody sneakers at Dixon's house. He had several warrants out for his arrest, including one for possession and intent to deliver controlled substance, domestic battery and first-degree murder.

Dixon remains in jail without bond. His preliminary hearing has been scheduled for July 24 at 1:30 p.m.

Charleston police said a suspect was arrested Thursday in connection with the murder of a woman on Charleston's West Side.

Police arrested Marlon "Ice" Dixon, after a warrant was issued for first-degree murder in the shooting death of Branda Basham, 22.

Basham's body was found Saturday on the railroad tracks along Madison Street.

Charleston police said a manhunt is under way after a warrant was issued in connection with the murder of a woman on the West Side.

The Charleston Police Department issued the warrant for Marlon "Ice" Dixon for first-degree murder.

Branda Basham, 22, was found on the railroad tracks along Madison Street on Charleston's West Side last Saturday morning. She had died of three gunshot wounds.

Dixon is also wanted for an outstanding warrant for heroin distribution.

Charleston police are looking for a person of interest in a West Side murder.

Police said Sunday, that they are seeking Marlon "Ice" Dixon for questioning, in the investigation of the murder of Branda Basham, 22.

Dixon is wanted in connection with a heroin case, and police would also like to question him about Basham's death.

Basham was found on the railroad tracks along Madison Street on Charleston's West Side at about 10:30 a.m. Saturday. She had died of gunshot wounds.

Neighbors reported hearing gunshots in the area between 2:30 a.m. and 3 a.m. Saturday morning.

So far, no arrests have been made in the case.

Friends and family of Basham sat around on their porch Sunday, and remembered the woman they loved so much.

"Very gentle person, very bright, very bright young lady," her father, Bruce Basham, said.

Her parents are still so shaken by this act of violence they were not comfortable showing their faces on camera.

"She's had some bad times, but she's still a good girl deep down," her mother, Cathy Basham, said.

Cathy Basham said Branda got mixed up with the wrong crowd, but said she was still a great person, and she never stopped loving her.

"It wasn't her,” Basham said. “It was her body, but the things she was doing just made her a completely different person."

Even as police are closing in on a person of interest in this murder, the family still has plenty of questions about why their daughter was killed.

"She's up there, looking down on us now. That’s what gets me through the day just knowing that nobody is hurting her, and she's peaceful right now," Basham said.
