Police said repeated concerns from multiple neighbors in the Highlawn area helped lead to three arrests Thursday.
"People don't who they're neighbors are, but we do here," resident Carol Mazurek said.
When they started seeing strange activity at a house on Miller Street. Neighbors began reporting it to the anonymous crime tip line to an officer who attends their monthly neighborhood association meeting.
"They're giving us specific information about tags, vehicles that are coming and going, people that are coming and going, descriptions, the busiest times of the day, the busiest days of the week," Huntington Police Captain Rocky Johnson said.
Johnson said tips like these help lead to arrests. In this case, those specific tips netted three arrests Thursday.
They were able to execute a search warrant at the house Thursday, where they found pills, cash, scales and drug paraphernalia.
Police arrested Asia Janae Russell, 21, who lives here, for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. Two men from Detroit who were at the home also face charges. Bryant Lamont Holloway for possession with intent and forgery of vehicle registration, and Kenneth Alexander on an outstanding felony capias warrant.
"They really do try to keep the neighborhood the best it can be," Mazurek said.
The Highlawn neighborhood association meets once a month to talk about ways to improve their neighborhood, and that includes keeping criminals out. So far, it seems to be working.
"They're very vigilant. If they see something that doesn't look right, they notify us.," Johnson said.
You don't have to be involved with a neighborhood association to report concerns. The anonymous crime tip line is open 24 hours a day at 304-696-4444.
