One woman is looking to bring hope to drug addicts in the Tri-State with a free concert and some heartfelt advice.

"My passion comes from my personal story,” Amy Lambert, the CEO of Hope Uprising, said. “I started using drugs when I was 12 years old."

The drugs included Oxycodone, cocaine, LSD and anything else she could grab to deal with her parent's nasty divorce.

By 19, she said she was on the streets, shooting up close to 20 times a day.

A nasty infection and a visit to the doctor turned her around, and now she helps others.

"If my life can be transformed, then anyone's life can be transformed," she said.

Lambert founded Hope Uprising, a non-profit that helps addicts find free or low cost care, wherever they are.

On July 12, Hope Uprising is coming to Portsmouth's Spartan Municipal Stadium with a free concert festival and advice for local addicts.

"When I saw the tremendous need and I heard the stories, I knew in my heart that we have to do this in Portsmouth," she said.

The three-day event will feature music from local and national bands, but Lambert said, more importantly, many local rehab clinics and support groups will be in attendance and eager to accept new patients.

Lambert said she connects with addicts in a way many others can't.

"I'm able to show them the scars on my arm, and be able to relate to them where they are," she said.

She said that connection often motivates drug users to seek the help they desperately need.

The concert begins is set for 3 p.m. on July. The event is free, but anyone looking to make donations to help cover the cost can go to HopeUprising.com

The money raised goes to help educate people about drug abuse and to provide free treatment to those who need it.
