The early story at The Greenbrier Classic is being written by Jonas Blixt.

The defending champion set the pace early with an opening round of 6 under, with a score of 64.

The weather isn't the only thing heating up at the Greenbrier Classic.

Competition is getting closer as a bogey for Jonas Blixt at No. 5 brings others into a share of the lead.

J. Hahn, J. Bohn, J. Durant and D.A. are close in the race for the win.

The first round of The Greenbrier Classic opened Thursday with the defending champion taking the early lead.

Defending champion Jonas Blixt played his opening nine in 5 under.

Golfers in the field competing for the tournament title include FedEx Cup points leader Jimmy Walker, major championship winner Keegan Bradley and rising star Patrick Reed.

On Wednesday, the Pro-Am teed off with a star-studded field that included “Duck Dynasty” stars Jase Robertson and Justin Martin, Head Football Coach Doc Holliday, MU Men’s Head Basketball Coach Dan D’Antoni, former Marshall football coach Bob Pruett, Virginia Tech Head Football Coach Frank Beamer and comedian George Lopez.

It’s not only a week when big names in golf will be teeing it up in the Mountain State, but a week when major musical acts will be taking the stage as part of the White Sulphur Springs resort’s entertainment. Maroon Five and its lead singer, Adam Levine, will be performing on Friday, July Fourth, while Jimmy Buffet and the Coral Reefer Band will be cranking out the tunes on Saturday, July 5.
