Deputies Say Man Charged In Fatal Shooting Kicked Victim In Head As He Was Dying

Kanawha deputies said the man involved in a fatal shooting Thursday morning in Cross Lanes repeatedly kicked the victim in the head as he was dying on the floor.

Deputies said Dustin Bodkins, 29, of Cross Lanes shot Timothy Morris, of St. Albans multiple times, hitting him with at least one bullet. Deputies said upon arriving at the scene, they found Morris in a pool of blood on the floor, already dead.

Deputies said they interviewed Lindsey Winans at the residence. Winans said that she and her fiance, Bodkins, had recently separated.

Winans said she had her friend, Morris, over at her home on Orchard Street when Bodkins came to the door, asking for acid reflux medicine. While Winans was searching for medicine, Bodkins entered the home, frantically searching through rooms and closets.

Bodkins found Morris hiding inside a closet and the two started to fight. Bodkins then went to the master bedroom and retrieved a pistol. Winans said Bodkins then repeatedly shot at Morris and hit him at least once with a bullet from the firearm.

Deputies said Bodkins then pointed the gun at Winans and threatened to kill her, then himself. Winans said after arguing with Bodkins, he pushed her down, into the blood of Morris. Winans said she could hear Morris moaning, and Bodkins then proceeded to kick Morris in the head.

Deputies said Bodkins is charged with the murder of Morris and wanton endangerment for threatening to shoot Winans.

Kanawha detectives said they have a man in custody after a fatal shooting Thursday morning in Cross Lanes.

The Kanawha County Bureau of Investigation detectives said they are charging Dustin Wayne Bodkins, 29, of Cross Lanes with the murder of Timothy Morris, of St. Albans.

Deputies said they are also charging Bodkins with wanton endangerment for pointing a pistol at Lindsey Winans and making threats to kill her.

The shooting happened about 3 a.m. Thursday. Deputies said Bodkins arrived home to find his fiance, from whom he was separated, Winans, at home with Morris. The men began to fight when Bodkins pulled out a gun and shot at Morris, deputies said.

Deputies said Bodkins then barricaded himself in a bedroom, armed with a loaded gun.

The Kanawha Sheriff’s Office SWAT team used a taser to take Bodkins into custody. Bodkins is awaiting arraignment.

Kanawha County deputies responded to a shooting call on Orchard Avenue in Cross Lanes early Thursday morning.

Deputies said that a man discovered his girlfriend at home with another man. The men began to fight. Then one pulled out a gun and shot the other. The shooting suspect barricaded himself in a bedroom armed with a loaded handgun. A Kanawha Sheriff's Office SWAT team used a taser to take him into custody.

The Kanawha Bureau of Investigation is collecting evidence at the scene. The suspect will be arraigned before a magistrate Thursday morning.
