An overnight fire destroys a home and leaves a Charleston family homeless and two pets dead.

For people living on Cora Street the fire brought back grim memories. The house firefighters said was intentionally set on fire is located across the street from the Arlington Avenue site, where nine people died in 2012.

Firefighters said someone set an item on the porch on fire but they don't know who did it or why. They say the family of five left the house shortly before the fire. The family's two dogs were still inside when the fire ignited.

Firefighters say the family was in the process of moving. What little that family had inside the house is now gone.

The fire is currently under investigation.

A Charleston family is mourning after their home was destroyed from a fire that killed their two dogs.

The Charleston Fire Department said it responded to a call about 1:30 a.m. Thursday on Cora Street off the Westmoreland exit. The home was fully engulfed by the time firefighters arrived at the scene. Firefighters said they were unable to save the two family dogs that were trapped inside.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
