Huntington , Cabell County , West Virginia

As expected, the lemonade business was booming on the hottest day of the year so far.

"I think lemonade is the best drink to quench your thirst," said Matthew Thompson, director of West Virginia Lemonade Day.

A group of 5th graders at Spring Hill Elementary School is setting up this stand at different spots around Huntington this summer. "The community support has been overwhelming. Just the amount of tips and donations they've gotten," said Thompson.

They'll donate half the proceeds to Alex's Lemonade Stand, which is a juvenile cancer research charity, and save half to get some new playground equipment at their school.

Fifth Grader Tyrees Smith is the stand manager. He said he's really excited to get more equipment, especially some new basketballs.

The stand is part of West Virginia Lemonade Day's mission to empower youth and spark entrepreneurship early. "That's the most important thing, that these kids get exposure to what entrepreneurship is, then maybe they will become the next entrepreneurs of the state," said Thompson. In the second year for the project here in West Virginia, about 3,000 kids are participating. The proceeds from each stand go to different causes. Some go to charity, some for fundraising, and some split, like the one for Spring Hill.

The kids have learned everything from how to set it up, to staying on a budget, and how to manage the stand.

"It took a lot of work, because we had to paint, we had to paint it white then blue and then the edges... then make all the lemonade.
but say the thirst they are quenching is worth all the effort," said Smith.

They spent Tuesday morning outside the Wild Ramp in Central City selling the lemonade, sweet tea and limeade, but you'll be able to catch them at different spots around town throughout the summer if you missed your chance to donate and grab a cup.
