Wheelersburg , Scioto County , Ohio

Authorities said a Wheelersburg, Ohio, man was arrested at his residence after a methamphetamine laboratory was discovered.

Darrell Lee Johnson, 49, was taken into custody about 5 p.m. Friday at his home on Turkeyfoot Road, according to a news release from the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office. The arrest was made by Scioto County deputies with the assistance of members of the Southern Ohio Drug Task force and the Portsmouth Police Department.

Deputies were investigating a complaint of a possible drug overdose at Johnson’s residence when they discovered a one-pot meth lab. An officer with the task force along with an officer from the Portsmouth Police Department responded to the scene to assist with the collection of evidence and the dismantling of the meth lab.

The one-pot meth lab vessel, several hydrogen chloride gas generators, materials used to manufacture meth and drug paraphernalia were removed from the residence.

Johnson was charged with illegal manufacture of drugs and drug paraphernalia. He was arraigned in Portsmouth Municipal Court on Monday, and is currently being held in the Scioto County Jail on $10,000 bail.

The case against Johnson will eventually be forwarded to the Scioto County Prosecutor’s Office to be presented to a Scioto County grand jury for the consideration of additional felony criminal offenses.
