Tornado , Kanawha County , West Virginia
A Saturday night of partying has left one teen in the hospital.
"This is a criminal matter. We're looking to find out who was it that endangered so many lives," Cpl. Brian Humphreys, with Kanawha County Sheriff's, office said.
Kanawha County deputies are investigating a shooting that happened at a home on Fawn Lane in Tornado, and neighbors said is a regular party spot.
"They'd be loud, hollering and screaming and going on just like they're having a good time," Gary McFaddin, who is a neighbor, said. "But didn't think there was ever going to be no shooting involved."
Deputies said there were multiple fights at the party, including one leading to a 16-year-old boy being shot in his back. The teen is in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.
"There were a lot of alcohol beverage containers remaining on the ground from the party. I don't think that it's unreasonable to assume that played a role in this," Humphreys said.
Deputies said it's too early to know if charges will be placed against the parents for underage drinking.
But there's something else that helped create this mess: Social media.
Deputies said the crowd of people was large, estimating 60 to 70 cars at the height of the party.
The address to the home where this all happened was posted on Twitter earlier this month gearing up for a different party.
"That's just inviting people for trouble, you know? Because you don't know what kind of riff-raff is going to come," McFaddin said.
And earlier this week, the idea of another party was thrown around.
Hours before the incident, there was a tweet warning party-goers Saturday night's party may be moved inside.
And just hours after the shooting, Twitter blew up with teens reacting to the incident.
One girl even posted a picture of what leg looked like after running through the woods when she heard the gunshots.
"What can you expect? You know what I mean? If you have a bunch of people up on the hill and what not. Random people that come from all sorts of directions," Daniel Ganoe, another neighbor, said.
As deputies continue to investigate the incident, Ganoe has some advice for his neighbor.
"If you're going to throw a banger, invite people you know locally, and not all these other hoochies around here," he said.
Deputies are still investigating and haven't named a suspect in the shooting yet.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Sheriff's office.
