Independence Day Celebrations Scheduled

Americans all over the country light up the sky every July to celebrate Independence Day.

This year, many towns including and surrounding the capital city are doing just that on one of the country's biggest holidays. Cities and towns in Kanawha, Cabell and Putnam counties will be hosting bands, festivals, and extravagant firework displays from Thursday, July 3, through Saturday, July 5.

Following is a schedule of Independence Day celebrations:

Kanawha County:

Charleston, Appalachian Power Park, Thursday, July 3. The West Virginia Power will take on Hickory beginning at 6:05 p.m. Following the game, the band Red Wanting Blue will play for about 90 minutes, and a fireworks show will bring the performance to a close.

Charleston, Haddad Riverfront Park, Friday, July 4. Live on the Levee will be host to opening band Stonestreet at 6:30 p.m. followed by the headliner Black Diamond Experience at 7:30 p.m. A fireworks show will follow.

Putnam County:

Hurricane, Maine Street, Friday, July 4. Beginning at 4:30 p.m., a large Independence Day Parade will march through the Main Street of Hurricane. Festivities will continue at Valley Park from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. after the parade. Fireworks will begin at dusk in the park.

Buffalo, Gazebo Park, Friday, July 4. A parade will kick off the Fourth of July celebrations at 1 p.m. followed by live entertainment including gospel and bluegrass bands, food booths and several inflatables for children to play on. Fireworks will bring the festivities to a close at 10 p.m.

Cabell County:

Huntington, Harris Riverfront Park, Thursday, July 3. Beginning at 5 p.m., Huntington will host “Dog Davel” followed by fireworks after dark.

Huntington, Ritter Park, Friday, July 4. The 11th Annual 2K Walk and 5K Run for Independence will be held at 9 a.m. in the park.

Huntington, Camden Park, Friday, July 4, and Saturday, July 5. Camden Park will be host to a two-day Independence Day celebration, offering a 50 percent discount to all peoples who show up to the park with a military ID. On July 5, Miss Teen and the Talkbacks will be performing at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the park. Fireworks will conclude the celebrations in the park at 10 p.m. July 5.

Barboursville, Barboursville Park, Friday, July 4. The Greater Huntington Symphonic Orchestra will be live at Barboursville Park from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. followed by a large firework show at 10 p.m.

Milton, April Dawn Park, Pumpkin Park, Friday, July 4. Starting at April Dawn Park at 12 p.m. fair like festivities will continue until 5 p.m. Milton will later put on a fireworks show at Pumpkin Park at 10 p.m.
