Charleston , Kanawha County , West Virginia

It creeps and leaps and glides and slides...

And, it's the focus of an original musical.

The creative forces behind the Contemporary Youth Arts Company have done it again. Writer Dan Kehde and musician Mark Scarpelli have collaborated on a work starring the 1950s horror film oozing mass of death, the Blob.

"It's quite similar to the movie in certain ways,' Nik Tidquist (Steve) said. "If you can tell, for those who have seen the movie I'm dressed up pretty much like he was. But also with a lot of different characters that are in this, the events that happen, how it all plays out. Of course the movie didn't have any songs in it but at the same time it follows the events of the story rather well."

Even though the Blob is gelatinous creature that wants to eat everything in its path, the musical is family friend, featuring twenty 1950s style rock and roll songs tinged with a touch of the blues.

Like Scarpelli and Kehde's other works, including "Mary" and "Lincoln", "The Blob!" showcases an original book and music.

"It is definitely funny," Caitlin Moore (Jane) said. "It's really campy, though. It's definitely, it's almost making fun of some of the stereotypes of the 1950s. It's definitely funny but it also highlights how scared people really were of communism in the 1950s as well."
