Set In 1942 Brooklyn, "Lost in Yonkers' focuses on the lives of two teenage boys. Their mom has passed away and their dad hits the road looking for work, so they move in with their grandmother.
"It's a comedy but it's really got some good meat to it," Micah Doss (Jay) said. "It's not all just funny stuff. It's what you'd expect in any screwed up family. That's what this is, it's a screwed up family."
But the situation is far from perfect. Grandma is a stern taskmaster, their Aunt Bella seems a bit strange and slow and Uncle Louie appears under dark circumstances hiding a possibly deadly secret.
"It's really funny but sometimes there are some parts where it gets serious," Brooke Hirst (Bella) said. "But it picks right back up again. All in all, it's just kind of your average family trying to get through life."
The tone of "Lost in Yonkers" is a bit darker than most of playwright Neil Simon's other works.
Told through the eyes of the boys, its a story of a dysfunctional family, where secrets and lies threaten to bring harm to everyone involved. It's a rich story which won a Tony award for best play when it debuted on Broadway, and three more Tonys for acting performances.
"It's all coming together," Terry Terpening (Grandma) said. "You know, it's that week before we open. We're all just kind of, wow, look at this. We've got a set now, we've got costumes. It's all coming together, so it's going to be good."
