Gallipolis , Gallia County , Ohio

A Gallia County man is hospitalized after his family said he was beaten in the head during a fight.

Homer Saunders is being treated in a Columbus area hospital after his wife said he was beaten in the head with a hammer.

Gallia County Sheriff Joe Browning would not say whether or not it Saunders was hit with a hammer. Browning would only say it happened Friday night on Bladen Road right outside of Gallipolis.

They are not saying who did it because for now no charges have been filed. But they did indicate Saunders was hit while arguing over a piece of property. Browning said they are still investigating.

"Obviously, the victim hasn't been able to talk to us," Browning said. "(The victim) is two hours away recovering in a Columbus hospital, but as soon as he can talk we will send personnel there."

Browning said the case has been turned over to the county prosecutor.
