Playing a role made famous by Leonardo DiCaprio, Evan Sullivan stars in the stage version of "Catch Me If You Can." The musical, a part of FestivALL, tells the true story of Frank Abagnale, Junior. In the 1960s, he learned how to make fake checks, and used the money to finance his con man career, pretending to be a doctor, an airline pilot and several other professions all to escape a dreary home life.
"Well it's a lot of fun because there's so many different faces to this character," Sullivan (Frank Abagnale, Jr.) said. "I not only get to play him I get to play all of the characters he played. So I get a whole variety of experiences on stage."
Abagnale's criminal activities drew the attention of the authorities, particularly FBI Agent Carl Hanrattty. His dogged pursuit of the con man propels the story forward as the two develop a sort of relationship, but one in which Hanratty vows to bring Abagnale to justice.
"The guy who played this part on Broadway won a Tony award for it," Chris Terpening (Carl Hanratty) said,. "So, that kind of tells you just how fun it is, how central, kind of moving things along. Just fun to play with."
Abagnale's crimes take him all over the country, with Hanratty hot on his trail. In the midst of his many deceptions, Abagnale does find one truth, the love of a hospital nurse. But his criminal ways loom over the couple and could derail their happiness.
"It's an amazing ensemble as well," Elizabeth Cary Brown (Paula Abagnale) said. "And I think someone of all ages could really enjoy this show. It has a lot of different messages for different people, but it's a story of redemption and I think that's the big picture people will take away."
