Alum Creek , Lincoln County , West Virginia
A garage, a double-wide, and a two story house are all burned to the ground.
"There is nothing left. I mean everything they worked all their life for is gone," Todd Wheeler, a relative to the victims, said.
The fire broke Saturday night on Tressel Road in Lincoln County.
Alum Creek Volunteer Fire Department was the first on scene.
"The idea was to get there as quick as we could to contain the damage to just the garage. But by the time we got there, the fire had already spread," Rob Frazer with Alum Creek VFD said.
People on scene Saturday said they believe the fire started in the garage and spread quickly to the double-wide and the house.
Investigators still aren't sure what started this fire.
A total of four families, including 4 children, are now left to sit and stare at the rubble.
The families said Red Cross has provided them with temporary housing assistance in the meantime. And while it may be nothing like what they had before, the families are just glad everyone is safe.
For firefighters there were several difficulties while dealing with this fire. At one point ammunition in the two-story house was exploding which caused the firefighters to pull back.
"As it was going off it really sounded like a bunch of M80's or firecrackers going off," Frazer said.
But the dangers didn't stop there.
"As the heat intensifies, the brick starts to get brittle. And it will start to fall and that's what we had," Frazer said.
Walls to the home are now nothing but rubble.
Everything inside smoldered for several hours.
And four families are now left with nothing.
"The community will rally around them. They will come together and they will rebuild," Wheeler said.
Friends and the families said they hope to start a fund with a local back to help them rebuild.
