Jeremey Gannon, like all of us, uses water every day. He's lived in Putnam County for more than a year now, and said he's glad to be hooked up to Putnam PSD.

"It's nice to be able to rely on your water company. Every time I turn the faucet on I know I’m getting good clean water to drink and use," Gannon said.

When you turn your water on, you probably don't think twice about it, but that water has been on a round trip in a water treatment plant. For Putnam PSD users, it's a lengthy process before their water is ready.

"In the plant and out of the plant, approximately nine hours. That varies of course with how much water you're treating," Putnam PSD water quality superintendent John Inghram said.

One of the newest additions to the Putnam PSD is a new indoor facility where the water is treated. This is where water goes through some of the first stages of purifying. About 4 million gallons of water per day come through and get treated in three different stages.

The room, along with some highly trained water operators, helped Putnam PSD win the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resource’s Surface Water System of the Year Award and the Optimized Water Treatment Plant Award. Both are highly respected in the water industry.

"You haven't had violations, and you've been able to meet your goals as far as water treatment goes," Inghram said.

Inghram said he's proud of the water his plant provides to people in Putnam County, and, in a year where more than 300,000 people couldn't use their water for several days, Gannon said he appreciates the work of the Putnam PSD.

"It's nice to come home, and just grab a glass of water and get it from the faucet, and not have to worry about am I getting clean water, and if it tastes good or not," he said.
