Huntington , Cabell County , West Virginia

There have been many obstacles to get through over the past few years but the pool is finally reopen at the A.D. Lewis Community Center in the Fairfield West area of Huntington, and they hope to open the entire summer this year.

Greg Jackson, the human resources manager at the Marathon Catlettsburg refinery, said he loved being able to watch the kids finally be able to use the pool.

"Once they jumped in I said that's why we do this. It gives them a place in the summer to come to," he said.

Director MaRia Hill said it's been a long time coming, and they were excited to re-open.

The pool shut down in 2011, in need of some major repairs. The next year, they were able to reopen in mid-July, but last year, had to cut the season short because of a failing pump. That's when board member and retired Marathon employee Leon White asked his former coworkers for advice.

"He said, 'Hey, all I'm looking for is advice. We just need some of your resident experts to come up, electrical, pump mechanics, to look at what we have,' " Jackson said.

They not only gave advice, but the time and money to get this pool back in proper working order.

"We need to make sure this pool is ready for the kids this summer," Jackson said. Their family members, contractors and vendors also pitched in.

"(I'm) very relieved now that they're in the pool. It's great. That's what we've been waiting on," Hill said.

They cut the ribbon Thursday morning and the kids didn't waste any time getting wet. Nylah NcNeely, 6, said she loves splashing and paddling in the water.

"It's really fun," she said.

They'll be splashing and smiling their way to a happier summer here at the community center. "I'm so happy," McNeely said.

Admission is free, and they not only invite folks in the Fairfield West area, but all over town to come out and enjoy.
