Two men in Charleston got into an argument Wednesday's afternoon inside a cell phone store.
The argument quickly went south, and what happened as a result is surprising.
"I am not going to get into any trouble, you watch," store owner Nathan Evert said. "Not one lick of trouble."
But unfortunately for Evert, that was not the case.
Evert was taken to South Central Regional Jail with four battery charges and one charge of brandishing a weapon.
And all that trouble started at Evert's cell phone shop, Natedogg's Cellular, when he started to argue with a customer.
Rick Raines said his daughter was trying to get the screen of her phone fixed, but Evert refused. Raines said Evert started cursing and screaming at Raines and his family.
Evert told Eyewitness News he thought Raines was the rude one and told him to get out of the store.
Witnesses told police the men continued to argue.
Police said Evert chased Raines, his daughter, granddaughter, and another man out of the building and threatened them with a crowbar.
So Raines made his move.
"I'm a licensed carrier," Raines said. "I pulled my weapon out and told him if he hit me with that crowbar I'd have to shoot him."
Police said they took Raines gun for investigation but said he did not fire the gun. Nevertheless, Evert wasn't happy.
"I'm being arrested because someone pulled a gun on me. Someone pulled a gun on me, so they're arresting me," Evert said.
Police said Evert did in fact threaten Raines and three others. They said Raines was not only defending himself, but also his family.
"This guy is quite beside himself for some reason," Raines said.
Despite the charges, it's business as usual for Evert.
"Come and see me. I'll give you a good price on a phone," he said.
But customers will have to wait while Evert sits at the South Central Regional Jail with a $1,000 bond.
A tense standoff between a store owner and a customer took place in Charleston Wednesday.
It all happened around 2 p.m. on Tennessee Avenue, just outside of Nate-Dogg Cellular
Charleston police responded to the call.
The customer, Rick Raines, said his daughter was trying to get her phone fixed, and said the store owner, Nathan Evert, refused and began screaming and cussing at Raines, his daughter and granddaughter.
That's when Raines said Evert raised a crowbar toward the customers. Police said Raines, who has a concealed carry permit, pulled out his gun and told Evert he would shoot him if he hit him in the head with the crowbar.
Raines was uncuffed and let go by police.
However, Evert was arrested. He is charged with four counts of battery and one count of brandishing.
