Charleston , Kanawha County , West Virginia

The Kanawha County Public Library is packed, but not only with books.

The downtown library in Charleston also has a packed schedule with tons of summer events for both children and adults, according to a news release from the library. The events will kick off when foodies and other cooking enthusiasts are invited to share and swap their favorite recipes. Each week different categories of food will be shared.

From noon to 1 p.m. June 18, all recipes for appetizers are welcome. Soups and salads are invited on July 2, followed by entrees on July 16 and desserts on Aug. 6.

Ed Rabel, an Emmy Award-winning broadcast journalist and West Virginia native, will be visiting the library at 6 p.m. June, 19. Rabel will be reading from his first book “Black Gold, Black Death.” He will be singing books after the presentation.

Meanwhile, Michael Albert, a pop artist and author of “An Artist’s America” will show families how to create their own exciting art. He will be at the library at 10:30 a.m. June 25. Albert also will be traveling to other library locations.

In addition, FestivALL and the library system are teaming up to host The Children’s Art Fair and Library Street Fair. Activities include an assortment of games, make-and-take craft opportunities and child friendly stage performances. Both events take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 28 in the 100 block of Capitol Street from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The library’s annual summer used book sale will be on the third floor of the Ray Room from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. June 28.
