There are still 39,000 AEP customers without water as of 2 p.m. Wednesday.

That number is down from more than 50,000 customers who woke up in darkness this morning.

According to AEP's website, the Tuesday night storms caused significant damage to its system, including downed wires and broken poles.

Kanawha, Wayne, Lincoln, Boone, Logan, Mingo, Raleigh, Cabell and Fayette counties are still experiencing power outages.

Extreme winds blew over a transmitter tower broadcasting two Kindred Communications stations.

1340 AM is nothing but dead air, while 92.7 The Planet is now broadcasting from another location with lower power.

The most difficult task will be clearing a road to repair the tower.

Many people across our viewing area fell asleep to storms Tuesday night and are waking up to darkness Wednesday morning.

More than 50,000 AEP customers are without power Wednesday morning, as a result of severe weather from the night before.

Eyewitness Meteorologist Brandon Stover said a potent line of storms, called a "Bow Echo," raced through the region last night, causing downed trees and power lines throughout various counties.

The chaos from Tuesday night has carried over to Wednesday morning in Cabell County, as residents are experiencing the worst of the power outages. Tuesday night, multiple lights were out along Route 60, along with three trees downed along Third Avenue. Nearly 15,000 people are still without power.

Other areas experiencing a high volume of power outages due to the storm, which included high winds and heavy rain, are Kanawha, Wayne, Lincoln, Putnam, Boone, Logan, Mingo, Raleigh and Fayette counties.
