Fire Levels House
Ctsy. Becky West

Poca , Putnam County , West Virginia

Flames tore through a Putnam County home, destroying everything.

"There was flames bursting out the top. Then it started popping out glass and wood," 10-year-old Tyler McClanahan said.

The fire broke out Saturday night on Dupont Road in Poca.

A neighbor alerted the McClanahan family, including three children,Tyler and Owen McClanahan and Brooke Lawrence, that their home was on fire and they all couldn't believe their eyes.

"You really just think if they don't get there on time, it's all just going to burn," Lawrence said. "So you can't really do anything about it. I mean it sucks."

Luckily no one was inside the home when the fire started.

The McClanahan's currently live across the road and have been remodeling this home for more than a year. Those plans obviously now have to be put on hold.

"I was scared that we were never going to get to move into this house," Owen said.

For Owen's little brother Tyler, he was excited to have his own bedroom, but now all the building with the new house "went to waste."

Several appliances, tools and other material items are now reduced to ash.

And while the kids may have to wait for their new bedrooms they all learned a very valuable lesson.

Own said on firefighter on scene Saturday told him "You can replace this house, but you can't replace you."

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

The family plans to rebuild in the near future.

A home was left in ruins after fire Saturday night.

The fire began around 8:00p.m. in the 200 block of Dupont Road near Poca River Road.

No one was living in the house at the time of the fire as the property is being remodeled, and no injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
