Huntington , Cabell County , West Virginia

Carrie Good said her family was in bed when she was woken up to the sound of gun shots Friday morning.

"I don't know how many there were but it was quite a few and it sounded like it was just right outside my window," she said.

Actually, it was. The shots were being fired around the house next door in the 1200 block of 26th Street in Huntington.

"It was really just too close for comfort, and I called 911," Good said.

When police got on scene they found one of the bullets had gone through the house next door and into her home, just a few feet away from her one-year-old daughter's room.

"I really can't put into words how scared I really was, because it could have been just the next room over, it could have been in her room," she said.

While no one was hurt, police arrested Clyde Sharnell Bridges, 40, for being a felon in possession of a handgun. Police found him behind the home in question. The homes on each side were also hit with bullets.

"I was surprised, because it's usually pretty quiet around here. Everybody's usually real friendly," Good said.

Sharita Chapell lives up the street and was also surprised to hear gunfire in the neighborhood.

"For me to have just lived here about a month and a half it's kind of scary," she said.

Her first priority was to check on her son, who was still sleeping. Both moms are hugging their kids a little tighter today.

"It could have been a lot worse than just the hole in the wall," Good said.

A Detroit man is charged with a felony in the possession of a handgun in connection with a shooting in Huntington Friday morning.

Clyde Sharnell Bridges, 40, of Detroit, is being charged after police said he was found at a residence where gunshots were fired.

The Huntington Police Department responded to a report of gunshots in the 1200 Block of 26th Street. Upon arriving, police said they observed that the residence had been shot about 10 times.

After searching the residence, police found no victims, but said they found Sharnell hiding in the backyard with a handgun.

A vehicle in the area was struck several times as it passed in front of the residence at the time 911 dispatchers received the call, It is unknown what role the vehicle played in the incident, if any, but it was towed to HPD headquarters to be processed.

Two homes, one to the south (abandoned) was struck once, one to the north was struck once.

There are no injuries to report.
