CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Katelyn Sykes, Darrah Wilcox) -- Wednesday night's severe weather left quite a mess for folks to clean up Thursday morning.

The big issue here in Kanawha County was power outages.

On Hillcrest Drive in Charleston, power crews were working on lines to restore power to customers in the area.

On Wertz Avenue, a tree that fell took down lines, knocking out power to people living in this area.

That tree was removed, allowing crews to get in and fix the lines.

AEP officials on the scene said they expected to have lines fixed and power restored in the afternoon.

At one point, thousands of customers were without power in Kanawha County.

As of noon, AEP’s website said only about 300 customers were still in the dark in Kanawha County.

The other area with the most outages included Cabell County, with about 700 customers still in the dark.

Lincoln, Logan, Putnam and Wayne are also reported outages.

In Lawrence County, Ky., some residents were left with a big mess after high winds ripped through some houses there.

For the most part, damage was minimal, but that doesn't mean some weren't dealing with a big mess.

Storms pounded their way through the Tri-State in a few waves Wednesday, producing enough high winds to call for tornado warnings in most of the Eyewitness News viewing area. While nothing has been confirmed, some in Louisa suspected a funnel may be responsible for damage to a scrapyard and home off Jim Lane near U.S. Route 23.

On Thursday, they were still picking up the pieces and the homeowner said he's just lucky to be alive.

On Ky. Route 3, another home was damaged by strong winds.

On Halls Mills Road in Ona, there were trees down and residences left with no electric.
